You want to watch a movie with your friends. But you can’t decide on what. You just know you want to see something different.
Not only is there no recipe used to create these indie darlings, they’re full of quirk, and meaningful messages:
1. Across The Universe | Monday 4th June | 10% off tickets [use promocode: funzindie]
The songs of THE GREATEST BAND EVER (The Beatles!) provide a framework for a musical story about love, war, and peace. Set in the 60s, Across The Universe follows Jude (Jim Sturgess), a young British man, as he looks for work in America. Jude mets Max (Joe Anderson), his beautiful sister Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), and gets caught up in the bohemian sensuality of the 60s revolution. As Jude and Lucy fall in love, their relationship is threatened by the social upheaval of the time.
2. Little Miss Sunshine | Saturday 9th June | 10% off tickets [use promocode: funzindie]
Follow the Hoover family in this modern classic as they road trip across America, desperately trying to make it to a beauty pageant on time. Little Miss Sunshine was inspired by an article in which Arnold Schwarzenegger proclaimed how much he hated ‘Losers’ to a group of high school students–the film’s screenwriter disliked this attitude so much he wrote an award-winning film attacking the idea that in life you’re either going up or you’re going down! This film is both heart-warming and hilarious, full of outstanding performances from a star-studded cast.
3. Garden State | Monday 18th June | 10% off tickets [use promocode: funzindie]
Zach Braff was busy during the making of Garden State. He wrote, directed, and starred in this passion project. Andrew (Braff) returns to his small hometown for his mother’s funeral after being estranged from his family for a long time. Once home again, he decides to stop taking the anti-depressant medication prescribed to him years before by his doctor–also his father. He meets the free-spirited Sam (a scene stealing Natalie Portman) and slowly begins to feel the joys of a life rooted in normalcy. Garden State is a sweet, sincere film (with a killer soundtrack), about struggling in your 20s.
4. Juno | Saturday 23rd June | 10% off tickets [use promocode: funzindie]
Faced with an unplanned pregnancy Juno (Ellen Page), a quirky 16 year old high school senior, decides to give birth and the place the child with an adoptive couple. She thinks she finds the perfect couple: Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner). She’s pedantic and uptight. He’s laid back and cool. Juno gravitates towards Mark, but things get complicated when he starts looking at Juno as more than the mother of his future child. Funny and emotive, Juno boasts some of the best dialogue ever committed to film.
